I can’t exactly say I’m a saint when it comes to dressing up, I like to show a little skin and a little curve. For the most part, though, I like being modest. I go the extra layer to cover up my butt with a sweater for work. I use leggings when it’s cold if I’m wearing a dress, and avoid dresses altogether if they’re above my knee for work. I feel odd at the club. One time I wore a blazer to the club… a blazer. The girls around me were in body suits and strappy heels. I do realize that just because I don’t feel comfortable dressing like one of the Kardashians, doesn’t mean I have to cover every part of my body, though. And while modest fashion often relates to women who cover up parts of their bodies for religious beliefs, doesn’t mean I can’t relate to the term as well. I wanted to share with you how this helped me solve a fashion dilemma last weekend.
If you haven’t heard of modest fashion, and want to learn more, read Who What Wear’s article on this topic. It’s so interesting how many changes we see in the world of fashion, and all the terms we start to use to go along with them!
I bought this cropped top a few months ago and while I was excited to wear it, I wasn’t totally comfortable with how it looked. I don’t have the easiest time wearing revealing clothes, and while this top wasn’t super revealing, it still felt a little riskAy. So, of course I solved it with what I’ve been using to solve most of my outfit issues -a blazer. I threw a blazer on and the outfit immediately felt complete. I was able to cover up a little without ruining the “Spring vibe” I was going for. I think using blazers and jean jackets is the easiest way to cover up without killing an outfit. Like I said, I’ve been using blazers a lot lately, but jean or leather jackets are my favorite.
I also love a good midi/maxi dress during spring and summer time. This beige polka dot dress is perfect for warmer days where you don’t exactly feel like wearing a tiny dress, or you’re going somewhere that is not exactly appreciative of revealing clothing, like church or brunch with parents/in laws. (I’ve linked this one and some of my favorites below!)
I have a feeling I’m not the only one who can relate to modest fashion. To being conscious with how we choose to dress, even in the summer when the weather is hot hot hot. I’ll be sharing my outfit details below, as well as my favorite pieces that will keep you looking cute and covered just in time for summer!
As always, thank you so much for stopping by! Let me know what you think of modest fashion!
xoxo,
Cynthia
