Exactly one week ago I decided to try a juice cleanse with my husband. We’ve been on a health kick lately and felt that it was the right time to do a juice cleanse. Yes, there’s definitely a “right time” for this. We did a three day cleanse from Freshii, which included 4 juices and a “detox” salad every day. Overall we were happy with the cleanse and the results, so we’ll probably do it again in the future! I’m excited to share my experience with you so I’ll talk about the process, pros & cons, and how I felt during the three days. If interested, please read on!
Process
As I noted earlier, the cleanse includes 4 juices and a salad each day. If you live far away from a Freshii location, this might be inconvenient because you have to drive to the restaurant each day to get your juice. Lucky for us, we’re only a few minutes away. The only trouble we had was with the hour they open the restaurant, which was a couple of hours after my husband leaves for work. The solution was to get the juices the day prior and the salad on the day of. I was happy with how easy it is to work with them on the times you go pick up the juices, so no issues there! Aside from figuring out pickup times, the rest is pretty self explanatory. You drink your four juices throughout the day, about 2.5-3 hours apart and end your day with a salad. Oh my gosh is that salad gonna taste amazing!
Pros
There are quite a few pros to this particular cleanse.. for one the juices taste great. I have tried a juice cleanse before and the juices were absolutely disgusting. Actually, they were so gross, I couldn’t make it past the first day. I threw everything up after the 3rd juice and then, of course, my mom made me go back to real food. (This was right before my wedding, so I was living at home and she saw the whole thing!) Another pro to this particular cleanse is that it comes with a salad. Your body needs real food so providing it with a salad at the end of the day really helps you push through and get to the end of the cleanse. I’m honestly not sure if I was just super hungry and craving real food, but the salad was really tasty! The blend of veggies, cheese and dressing mixed really well and left me feeling satisfied at the end of each day. I also loved that they offer 1, 3 or 5 day cleanses. If you’re just wanting to experiment, you can try the one day! I would definitely recommend this option for juice-cleanse-rookies. So, if you’ve never done any sort of cleanse, start with a one day cleanse and work your way up.
Cons
I do have some minor complaints, but honestly ones that are not a deal breaker for me. Meaning, they won’t stop me from doing this cleanse again. For one, the packaging of the juice is not practical. They came in a plastic cup with a lid for a straw, so you can be absolutely sure I spilled some of that juice on the seat of my car. That also meant I had to transfer the three different juices my husband took to work into other containers (like shaker bottles) every single day. Again, it’s inconvenient but not a deal breaker for me. If you are on the go at work and can’t take two or three juices in their container to work, look into getting a good travel mug or something that will secure your juice. Mason jars work great for this too! Another con is that the juices are not very big. It feels like there should be more juice if that’s all you’re consuming throughout the day.. but they kept me full so I guess I could take that comment back, but I won’t so you know this is how I feel.
Ps. if you do feel like the juices are not filling you up and you’re feeling overwhelmingly hungry, snack on something healthy like an apple or almonds. I had to do this on the third day 🙂
Overall experience
Some of you might remember from watching my Instagram stories a few weeks back that my husband and I also tried the Whole 30 cleanse. If you haven’t heard of this, it’s basically a cleanse from sugar, alcohol, grains, soy, dairy and anything else that’s not “clean”. It was great and honestly I had high hopes because I was taking so much out of my diet.. like so much, but I was so disappointed at the end of it because I didn’t really see a huge difference in my belly. You can probably imagine how sad I was after all that sacrifice. So, going into this cleanse, I wasn’t expecting a lot, other than just getting another kick start to a healthier me. I took some pictures so I could compare my body after three days of cleansing and honestly I did see a change. I not only saw the change in my body (specifically belly area), but I also felt different. I know I’m not the first or last to roll my eyes when I hear that certain food helps with energy levels, and that when you rid your body of certain food, you suddenly feel a boost of energy, right? Well, I felt the boost of energy. On the second day of the cleanse I took a kickboxing class in the morning and was surprised I didn’t pass out. I was feeling great and was ready for the rest of the day! The most challenging part of the cleanse is staying away from food or rather keeping your mind from thinking about food. Trust me this will not get easier by the third day, but the longer you hold your cravings, the stronger you get and the easier it gets. I promise it’s all worth it in the end!
Final thoughts..
If you’re thinking about doing a juice cleanse, whether it’s the Freshii one or any other, you should do research on what is right for you. Consider your health and any conditions you might have, because a juice cleanse is not for everyone! It might sound like a quick fix or just something to try out, but it might not work for your body, so again, do you research! Also, preparation is KEY. It’s recommended that you start taking unhealthy things out (and putting healthy things into) your diet two weeks prior to the cleanse so your body is used to eating all those fruits and veggies. Preparation also means looking at what days are most convenient for you. If you have plans to meet up with friends or some kind of event that may tempt you to cheat, please don’t do the juice cleanse on those days! Be realistic with yourself and make sure you are mentally prepared for this journey. Lastly, once you successfully go through with the cleanse (wohoo!), try not to go back to eating fried, sugary and unhealthy food. It’s just going to bloat you right up and the days of cleansing will be for nothing. I hope this was helpful and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! Let me know if you try a juice cleanse and how it works out for you!
Thank you so much for stopping by!
xoxo
