It’s Valentine’s day!
So it’s pretty obvious that it’s not everyone’s favorite day. If you would have told my naïve 13-year old self this, I would have said, are you crazy? Who doesn’t love Valentine’s day?! Maybe the reason is a bad experience one year, or you just don’t see the point in celebrating love on ONE day, like why not celebrate it every day? While I agree on celebrating love every day and being sweet to your loved ones all year, Valentine’s day holds a special place in my heart. I’ve always loved the day, but the past 9 years have been extra special this time around and I’ll tell you why. You probably guessed it has to do with my husband, and you’re absolutely right. Nine years ago right before the start of February I met my husband. We were both in high school and I had been stalking him for a few months (okay, just following him with my eyes). I finally approached him on MySpace (lol) and he wanted to meet me in person! We met and immediately connected, we were inseparable, and we knew there was something more than friendship. February 14 was a heart-racing day for us. We knew we liked each other but we had only known each other for a couple of weeks. Even though nothing was said, we both knew this was not the day to make anything official. So, we spent Valentine’s Day together after school at this hangout spot where we spent most days. We ate candy that had been handed out to us throughout the day. We laughed. I played with his hair. We enjoyed the moment, and the rest of the month was very similar to that day (minus the candy). He finally asked me to be his girlfriend on March 2nd and the rest is history. The past nine years have gotten even better, and even though we make efforts to be extra sweet to each other throughout the year, this time is always a little more special.
We went to brunch on Sunday, and although this wasn’t our official Valentine’s Day date, I made an effort to look a little flirty. Which by the way, is extra hard to do when it’s super chilly outside. I took this hot pink blouse (thrift store find), unbuttoned an extra button and topped it off with a leopard print coat (also a thrift store find!) I love how flirty and casual the outfit looks. It’s perfect for a date night!
The flirty vibes did not end with the coat. I paired the outfit with the perfect boots from Sam Edelman. They literally completed the outfit.
I’m really excited for Valentine’s Day this year! We’re staying home and cooking a meal together…yes together! I think he said he’s making the mashed potatoes and I’ll be making seared lamb, one of his favorite dishes and one I’ve never made before! Wish me luck! Good thing we also have a nice bottle of champagne and I’ll be making some chocolate covered strawberries, so we’re good.
I hope your Valentine’s day is sweet, even if it just involves Netflix and chocolate -that sounds like a good night to me!
