Client Reveal: Dani & Mary’s Apartment

November 7, 2019

I think it goes without saying that decorating for two is much harder than decorating for one. Specially when you have two pretty gals with very unique styles! I had the pleasure of working with Dani & Mary in their gorgeous Dallas apartment over the past few weeks. The two became roommates this summer and needed a little help decorating their apartment. They had a few pieces of furniture and an idea for the look they wanted to achieve: modern, sleek and contemporary with a little feminine touch. My job was to help them decorate their apartment in a way that suited both of their personalities without spending a fortune.

The first step was having an initial consultation to figure out the color scheme and overall vibe of the living area. I created this board and made sure to include the items they already had in their living room.. the sofa, pink chair, and coffee table. I added a few other pieces to this design board: the Paris print (from The Retro Penguin’s shop), the floor lamp, cowhide rug, stool and pillows.

Creating this vision board helped me communicate what I had in mind for their apartment, and in return they gave me feedback on what they liked and didn’t like. Dani wasn’t crazy about the natural woven rug, but she liked the cowhide!

The very first thing we did was set up the gallery wall. The prints we used are from our friend Vanessa’s shop! You can find them here.

We also switched out the bar stools for a pair that matched their sleek style.

The bar cart got a little update as well!

To arrange their bar cart, I took everything out and styled it with only a few pieces to achieve a sleek, minimalist look.

When picking out pieces of furniture or decor, try to stick to a color scheme and style. I know it’s tempting to buy things just because they’re cute, but try to think about the colors you’re already working with. I suggested they switch out their rug for the cowhide rug for that reason! I would also pay attention to the metals you’re using. If you’re using brass and silver metals, for example, don’t mix in something copper or rose gold. It might throw off your color scheme!

I hope you enjoyed this reveal! I had so much fun shopping around for them and learning about their styles. Anyway, I’d love to hear your thoughts, so drop a comment down below!
